Taiye Selasi's upcoming novel, Ghana Must Go, a work that chronicles the bi-continental existence of West African Folasadé Savage. She travels from Lagos, Nigeria to Massachusetts where her tumultuous tale begins like a dream; meeting her future husband who is a revered surgeon.
Fola's tale has been reviewed as detailed and poignant especially since her story is set during the 1983 mass exodus of Ghanaians from Nigeria. In fact this historical event is where the term for the "Ghana Must Go" bags came from. Apparently the Ghanaians were expelled with such haste, many hurriedly packed their belongings in these plastic woven red and blue bags, and from there the phrase was popularized.
